A very unique and thoroughly written travel experience. The author really creates a sense of wonderment around the practical do's and dont's of traveling to ancient countries. Beautiful photographs and inspiring adventures will get you excited to plan your own adventure.
This is by far the best narrative I have ever read. I have never been to either Jordan or Egypt, however, I feel as though I have just returned and want to go back. Marcia not only describes her observations in detail, she adds a wealth of humor and insight. She takes you where the average traveler would ever think of going or dare to go. I now have a love and understanding of both the Jordanians and the Egyptians. Marcia made many friends along the way and shared them with the reader.
This is a book which was difficult for me to put down. One is drawn into the journey from the very beginning. And what a journey it was. Expect to feel the heat and as a consequence the thirst which follows. Expect great cultural detail and the tension felt concerning the security during these unsettled times. It was from this book where I learned about the "hubbly
bubbly" pipe which one occasionally sees in the United States. The nuances of gestures and innuendos so often misunderstood by cultures different than ones' own were fascinating, as the author engaged many people under varying circumstances. This book is an excellent source for those visiting this part of the world and for those of us who probably will not physically get there, it is the closest thing to going. This book is a very worthwhile read.
